Marston’s, one of the UK’s leading local pub companies, is launching a brand-new family-focused pub concept called Woodies. At the heart of Woodies is a programme of family events and activities built to delight kids and keep grown-ups smiling, turning every visit into a shared family moment.
Marston’s wanted to add a weekly kids’ craft club to the Woodies event calendar. Drawing on our expertise in experiences for children, we were tasked with designing a club that would excite and entertain families, be easy for staff to run, and tie seamlessly into Woodies’ woodland theme.
We started immersing ourselves into the world of Marston’s and Woodies. Getting a feel for the brand, the woodland theme, and the kind of family moments they wanted to create. This gave us a clear sense of the tone the craft club needed.
From there, we rolled up our sleeves and got crafty. We developed a mix of craft ideas that would work just as well for tiny hands as they would for confident older makers. Each activity was woodland themed, simple to set up, and fun for the whole family to get stuck into.
To make running the craft club easy for every Woodies team, we put everything into a practical toolkit.
It included:
- Step-by-step guidance on how to run a smooth, successful craft session
- Tips for adding extra sparkle and immersion
- Safety pointers to keep everyone happy and hazard-free.
All shaped by our understanding of children aged 4–11 and what keeps them engaged.
We created six full months of craft activities, with templates, materials lists and activity sheets designed by us, so every weekly session felt fresh, themed and ready to run straight out of the box.
To support launch, we also pulled together social media guidelines and a set of ready-made assets for the first three months.
We added extra ideas for future family events Woodies can explore as they continue growing their offering.
The Craft Club Toolkit gave Woodies everything they needed to launch a successful weekly family moment. From six months of themed crafts to clear guidance for staff and ready-made social assets. Early feedback from pubs has been really encouraging, with teams reporting that families and kids are loving the activities. Staff have already begun sharing ideas for future sessions and seasonal events, inspired by the toolkit and eager to keep growing the offer.
